Chrisoskalitissa is 76 kilometers from Chania on the western coast of Crete and is a small village with few residents. It is an important tourist resort that mainly attracts local visitors and some international visitors.
Don't miss the Chrisoskalitissa Monastery – its founding date is not known. An old legend of the Monastery says that one of the 90 steps that are etched in the rocks and lead to the monastery is made out of gold. This is where the name of the monastery comes from (Chriso=Gold, Skali=Step). Of course, according to same legend, only those without sin can see it.
You can also visit the small gulf of Stomio with its rocky coast and enjoy the natural beauty and the wonderful view it offers.
The festival dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is held in the village on the 15th of August at the Monastery of Chrisoskalitissa.
